This post diverts into my second concept for a space skirmish game. Space pirates. As much as I love the magical element of Frostgrave part of me just craves a simple, non-mystical sci-fi.
In my space pirates variant, we use the Captain rules from the Frostgrave expansion “Sellsword” for our Warband leader. Otherwise, we just have to tweak and reskin a few things. Money changes from gold to credits for example.
Energy pistol- no damage mod-12″ max range
Energy rifle- +2 damage-24″ range-must wait a turn to recharge.
Grenade-+3 shooting attack- 6″range( 1.5″ AOE)
Other weapons in the game remain the same, just look different. The area that will need the most retooling for both of my variants is the loot section. For quick, though, just substitute any magical item for a tech equivalent. IE a magic sword is a power blade, etc.
So next I will do a teched up version of the loot tables.
It is midnight in the Imperium of mankind. Monsters stalk the void, alien reavers descend upon colonies without mercy, and unwary ships can get lost between stars. What historical records survived The Darkening tell us it wasn’t always this way. Long ago Earth was the central hub of a galactic empire that kept expanding in its quest for precious minerals and proof of other life.
Planet after planet they explored, only finding first dust and microbes then only ruins and remains. It was among these ruins that the earthlings first discovered the means to unlock their full mental potential. Those now awakened fused Psychic power and human technology giving rise to the Psions, a ruling caste of warrior psychics. The rose to power and fueled an unprecedented era of peace and prosperity.
What happened next no one is certain of. All that is known is that a great blanket of darkness swept out of a distant black hole and spread across the galaxy. This darkness settled on some worlds and ignored others, it targeted those worlds that had more psychic potential. Ships trying to enter the darkness were destroyed, light could not penetrate, nothing could get through or lift the darkness. These worlds were cut off and the great empire was scattered and divided. Beginning an Era known as The Darkening, during which the once united ruling Psions fragmented into separate ruling houses (each a master of one discipline) fighting amongst each other for dwindling resources.
For one thousand years this darkness stood before it began to dissipate. The psions of today are merely a former shadow of the great ones of before. With The Darkening fading, the remaining psion families leapt at the chance to recover lost disciplines and technologies. To wrest power from the space graves and leverage it against the other houses.
I had to remove my blog roll of RPG hack sites because almost all of them were no longer functioning. So if any one knows of good DIY ethos RPG/Mini/boardgame/dice sites let me have ’em. Maybe you have a good Rolpunk oriented site you would like to me to link up to. Drop any in the comments.
Been awhile since I was here. I tried something in this space that never really gained traction. Of course I didn’t throw all that much passion into it, once again relied on the additional enthusiasm of others to keep me going. Enthusiasm that never manifested.
So I am here to pull back the drapes, whip off the sheets, and open this house back up.
I am considering making this my primary blog as this reflects my current attitude on so many levels.
If you read this, drop a comment and let me know you care.
If you are new here you may want to start by reading the manifesto. WARNING! it is chock full of lusty swear words, and vibrant imagery. If that offends then….well this may not be the site for you. This is not about playing safe or playing by the rules. It is about playing and playing your way, doing unspeakable things to the game systems you love. Above all, it is about having fun your way. Regardless of what others tell you (yeah even me).
Posts here will be about P&P gaming system hacks and cracks. Reviews of game systems that allow for these things, unconventional settings, and other fun stuff.
Are you old school? New school? Stop labeling yourself and ask yourself one question…..Am I having fun?
