I hear People talking about how awesome the internet is for RPG collaborations, but that’s only true for some people. It is true if you create things that cater to the”OSR”. It is true if you churn out some retooled crap for whatever the hot system of the moment is (Looking at you FATE).
It has been my experience that when you ask if anyone is interested in collaborating you get one of two reactions. The first on is complete disregard. The other is to have a couple of interested parties agree to help but when it comes time to ante up they fade away. Like Vaporware, but people…Vaporhelp, Vaporpeople, whatever.
Hell, it has also been my experience that when you ask for something as simple as input into something you are lucky if you even manage to get the ever annoying “it’s okay” or the ever so helpful “I like it”. Which, I will grant, is at least positive.
The real kick in the ass is that I don’t even need help. I would be glad to do all the work by myself on a project as long as I at least got some enthusiasm for what I was doing.
I don’t see a lot of original rpg content being co-created on the social media these days. Maybe I am wrong, maybe there is some secret cabal of original gaming ideas that I am not aware of. That is NOT my experience however.
