Instead of the classic wound structure for Savage Worlds extras ( shaken, incapacitated) I suggest arranging it thus for a change of pace. Divide extras into two types based on toughness, the first group we will call fodder. Fodder has no shaken status, if you beat their toughness they go down. The second group functions as previously mentioned.
For example, if you had a group of goblins led by an Orc the goblins would be fodder whilst the Orc would be an extra.
